Gratitude

Some of my recent interactions with people have resulted in me reflecting on gratitude. In this “busy” part of the world that we live in, it is easy to become fixated on wanting more from people without realizing how much those people are already giving us; it is challenging, though, to pause to express gratitude, especially for people who are regularly helping us and or people we care about.

I try to always express sincere gratitude for other people’s help: I consistently send handwritten thank-you notes and thank-you gifts to people who refer clients to me—I am very appreciative of those referrals because they allow me to keep my focus on teaching versus marketing; I consistently—every Saturday—send a thank-you message to the lady who helps me clean my home because without her help I would not have as much time to help students learn how to write; I also consistently sincerely thank vendors who go above and beyond when helping me with bookkeeping, SEO work, design work, etc., because I want them to know that I genuinely value them and their services, and I know that I would have a very difficult time finding someone to replace them because knowledgable hard workers are few and far between these days.

The above examples are just some of the ways that I express my gratitude for other’s help; there are more ways. However, that said, there is still more that I can do in order to be a more grateful person, which the world undoubtedly needs more of.
